A Glimpse of Candor's "Good Old Days" Now Available 

The Candor Historical Society proudly presents the first volume of  "I Remember When… A Glimpse of Candor's Good Old Days" compiled by Historian Carol A. Henry.  Autographed books will be available during Candor's Fall Festival of Events at the Society's location (Masonic Lodge #411, Rt. 96/96B) on Saturday, October 11, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.

 From the early settlers right up until today's citizens, there have always been tales to tell about living in Candor. Get a glimpse of the way it used to be, along with a few ‘tall tales,' and reminisce along with your friends and family about the ‘good old days' in Candor.

 Finally, learn the truth about the underground lake, or bottomless well, that was eventually checked out, first-hand, by a team of cohorts-in-crime. Through an obit you'll learn of one young man's travels and how he came to be part of a wagon train that was guided by Dan Carson, Kit Carson's brother!

  Reminisce with the now defunct Candor Courier back in 1924 as they looked back 50 years to the 1870s to find out who ran what business in Candor, who owned ‘the tea store,' the ‘radio shop,' ‘confectionary store,' and ‘the Cozy Corner Restaurant'.

 Do you know what a ‘tonsorial' parlor is?  What about the game ‘crokonole'? Did you know that Candor was also referred to as ‘Saints Rest'?  With 96-pages of interesting facts and tales, this book will unravel a few of Candor's mysteries of the past.

  Candor Historical Society is offering an introductory, holiday season price through December 2003 of $13 (includes tax). Those wishing to have the book mailed should include $2.00 for postage. The book will be available at The Green Bin on Route 96 in Candor, starting Sunday during the Fall Festival, and thereafter at Historical Society events, as well as at The Green Bin. Proceeds of this book go directly to the Candor Historical Society.
