Pat Brown Selected Tioga County's Employee of the Quarter

The Tioga County Employee Recognition Committee is pleased to congratulate Pat Brown on being selected "Employee of the Second Quarter, 2003."
Pat began work with Tioga County in September of 1987, as an Account Clerk Typist at the TIERS Continuing Day Treatment program. She started this job after 20 years of running a farm with her husband. She recalls fondly the support she received from the TIERS staff, particularly Janey Sargent, upon her return to the public sector. In 1989, Pat became the Office Manager at TIERS. She was promoted to Principal Account Clerk in 1990.

In 1992, Pat began work as a Principal Account Clerk at the Mental Health Administrative offices, as this was the start of an Accounting Department to handle all the financial aspects of the whole agency. Pat received a Community Services Board award for being an Employee of the Year at Mental Hygiene in 1993. In 1994, she was named Administrative Accounting Supervisor. She continues in this title today. During her years in this role, Pat was an important part of the integration of all of the Accounting Departments in Health and Human Services in Tioga County. In 2002, Pat was assigned the additional duty of overseeing the Medical Records Unit at Mental Hygiene. In her roles over the years, Pat has earned the complete confidence of both her supervisors and those that report to her. She has a passion for maximizing county dollars as both an employee and a taxpayer.

Pat is a joy to work with. She always has time to listen, and when faced with a problem, she follows through with a solution. She recognizes the efforts others put into their jobs. She believes strongly that policies and procedures are to be followed, and is not afraid to ask the hard questions to insure compliance. Pat truly feels the people that she works with are wonderful, and is very supportive of her employees. Pat is flexible to the needs of the team. During the last couple years, some members of the Accounting Department have missed some time due to medical reasons. Pat very strongly made sure these individuals took care of themselves, while also ensuring the needs of the Department were met. As a former farmer, Pat has been more than willing to work until the cows come home.

Pat lives in Apalachin with her husband of 36 years, Dave. Together, they have four sons and eight grandchildren. Though they no longer have a running farm, they continue to raise beef cattle. Pat belongs to the Tioga County Home Bureau and has been the Treasurer for many years. She is active in the Little Meadows Methodist Church and is a member of the United Methodist Women.
