Tyler Hess Earns Eagle Scout
Tyler Hess, 18, of Apalachin, a member of Boy Scout Troop 60, received
his Eagle Scout Award at a ceremony on May 31. For his Eagle Scout project,
Tyler supervised about 45 volunteers in a survey of Riverside Cemetery
on Marshland Road in Apalachin. The project included mapping the cemetery
and recording the tombstones' transcriptions. Copies of the completed cemetery
survey were given to the Tioga County Historical Society, the Riverside
Cemetery Association, The Family History Center at the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Montrose Turnpike in Owego, and to the Apalachin
Library. Tyler is a senior at Vestal Senior High School and in the fall
plans to attend Brigham Young University in Utah. Tyler is the son of John
and Laurie Hess of Apalachin (pictured above with Tyler), and the grandson
of Frank and Jean Hess of Nichols.
