• Commemorative Bridge Book
The book Crossing the Susquehanna: The Bridges of Tioga County
will be available for pre-order and on the day of the Court Street Bridge
Opening Ceremonies for $10. Afterwards, the cost will be $12 plus tax.
Written by local author and historian Tom McEnteer,
the book features 175 years of Owego bridges from the first to the newest
and includes bridges that cross at 11 other Tioga County locations. The
quality soft cover publication includes nearly seventy reproductions of
photographs from the society's collection and from private collections.
• Precious Pieces: Traditional Quilt Block Patterns Exhibit
Now through August 30
This exhibition will be on display in the museum's temporary
galleries in on the lower level. Quilting guilds from Candor and Newark
Valley will have some beautiful quilts on display.
• The Artful Berry
June 14 - July 12
The Artful Berry is a special exhibition in honor of the Strawberry
Festival, and features work of local artists.
• Walking Tour - Owego's Old Schoolhouses
June 14, Saturday, 10 am
Tom McEnteer will guide this tour of the schools of Owego's past.
Tours begin at 10:00 am at the museum on Front Street. Cost if $5.00 per
person for non-members, $2.50 per person for members. Tickets may be purchased
at the museum. Reservations are not required.
• The Great Court Street Bridge Roll
Weekend of July 4-5
To celebrate the opening of the new Court Street Bridge in Owego,
the historical society will be rolling 1,000 numbered pink golf balls down
the bridge to the sounds of derby horns. First prize is $2,000. Plus, there
will be many other prizes. Tickets to reserve your ball are only $10.00
each.
• Museum & Library Hours
Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The genealogy
research library is open from 1:00 to 4:00 pm Tuesday through Friday, and
from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday.
