Adopt a Duck for the ‘Rubber Ducky Derby'

In conjunction with Opening Ceremonies for the Court Street Bridge schedule for July 4, the Tioga County Council on the Arts (TCCA) will sponsor a Rubber Ducky Derby in the Susquehanna River.

During the Rubber Ducky Derby, the rubber ducks will be dropped off the bridge, and the duck that makes it to the Tioga County Historical Society first wins $250. Second place duck wins $100, and third place duck wins $50.

Ducks can be adopted for $5 each, or a flock of five ducks for $20, or a six-quack for $25.

The rubber ducks are the property of the TCCA, and live in a local pad-duck where they are busy training for this annual Rubber Duck Derby.  The adoptive parent of the winning ducks need not be present at the derby to win or claim their prize.

The Ahwaga Canoe Club will serve as duck lifeguards and will get the entire gaggle back to the pad-duck at the end of the race.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Tioga County Council on the Arts.
TCCA is also sponsoring a "Best Dressed Ducks for Bucks" Rubber Ducky Decorating Contest for children 12 and younger. The children can purchase a rubber ducky through TCCA for $3.00 per duck, and decorate it in an fashion (color it, paint it, glue things to it, etc.).

The best dressed duck will win a $100 Savings Bond, second place will win a $75 Savings Bond, third place will win a $50 Savings Bond.

For more information, or to adopt a duck for the Rubber Ducky Derby, contact the Tioga County Council on the Arts, (607) 687-0785, 179 Front Street, Owego.

Ducks will also be on sale during the Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 21, at the TCCA booth.
