Annie's Corner I did it, survived another session in the torture chamber, what most know as the dentist office. Now I know the dentist is there to help my dental health, but sure wish there was another way. I brush, I floss and yet I still get the cavities and if the dentist doesn't see them he uses his x-ray machine to track them down. If they are sleeping and not hurting why disturb them? One curiosity I have always wondered is why a hose or what ever it is called is stuck in your mouth to suck out all the moisture until your tongue feels as if it is rolling up, yet every other instrument seems to be powered by water. The drills definitely are powered by water. Ever had work done and feel the water run down your face and the back of your neck, being soaked up by your collar? How about the grinder? You know the device the dentist uses to give you goose bumps all over. I actually think it has shaken me down in the dental chair then he tells me to sit up. I was! Why are the dentist's tools all metal? I mean a metal pick against my teeth just makes me squirm, like fingernails across a chalkboard, very irritating. The Novocain keeps the drill from hurting but don't those needles going in smart. I mean last time I was worked on he put a shot in the roof of my mouth. (Won't get my prize today, wasn't that a tear that ran down my face?) When my kids were smaller they used to have a dentist that gave them prizes if they behaved. They would reach into his prize barrel and 9 times out of 10 pull out a piece of candy. Hey, is this being nice or promoting business? A decayed tooth does not look good and can cause a lot of pain but many put it off because of the expense of the dentist, which is extremely hard to handle if you do not have dental insurance. Then there is the smells in the dentist office, what are some of those items you can smell, and why don't they make the products odorless? Here I am entering midlife, and some of the teeth that were fixed and in what I thought was fairly good shape is losing its filling and has to be refilled, only a lot of dentist at this point recommend a root canal. I understand what they are doing in a root canal, question is why? I mean how does killing a tooth help me, and a couple I do have seem to be sensitive to cold foods. Does this mean they were only playing possum for the dentist and really are not dead? Ouch, must go and get some Advil, as my mouth is sore from the last torture chamber visit.
