Kiwanis Joins Forces with the Alzheimer's Association Chapters SYRACUSE -- The New York District of Kiwanis, Circle K and Key Club are embarking on a Kiwanis Family Project to benefit the seven chapters of the Alzheimer's Association statewide, including the Central New York Chapter. This initiative to raise awareness for Alzheimer's disease brings together the New York State Coalition of Alzheimer's Association Chapters and more than 650 Kiwanis Family (K-Family) clubs around the state. The Kiwanis Family Project has set three goals for this project - promote awareness of Alzheimer's disease, raise money for New Yorkers with Alzheimer's disease and their loved ones, and enhance visibility for the Kiwanis Family Project. Almost a half-million New Yorkers have Alzheimer's disease and the number is expected to grow three-fold over the next 25 years. Steve Haller, Kiwanis Community Service Chair, stressed the importance of accepting the challenge of overcoming this devastating disease. "People need a more thorough understanding of Alzheimer's disease," Haller said. "People diagnosed with Alzheimer's, as well as their family members, suffer devastating effects. That's why Kiwanians want to help. This K-Family Project is important to all of our families." K-Family Projects are part of Kiwanis
International, an organization that is dedicated to community service
