Mom's Wit
by Janet H. Brown

Go ahead call me "house potato," that is so right. This winter I stayed in.  I am just one voice out of hundreds, voicing her opinion, "I can't wait until SPRING."
My teenage daughter actually wore her winter coat, knitted cap, and gloves to school throughout the below zero winter days. When I had to go to the grocery store or take my daughter shopping, I tried and do everything in one trip. We went shopping one of those below zero days, with the winter wind blowing in our faces.  I tried to find a parking place, a good parking place, where you can get in and out of the car quickly. We ran into the grocery store, bought what we needed. Of course, we bought those comfort foods that make you feel nice and warm, and all of the fresh vegetables and fruit we so desperately long for.  We made our purchases and walked out - and were soon overwhelmed when the automatic doors opened and we were greeted by old man winter, winter wind, snow  flurries, and the cold frigid air.
We walked very briskly to the car. My daughter had the keys in hand and opened the car door for herself. In disbelief, I stood outside the car as she popped the trunk from the inside, started the car, jumped out of the car, grabbed the bags from the grocery cart, threw them in the trunk, ran the cart back to the store, and jumped in the warm car.  I had just encountered the first gold medal marathon, Grocery Cart Marathon, done in less that 30 seconds. Thank goodness I didn't buy any eggs that day!
See you in the Spring, when the weather man announces rain, and temperatures in the 60's.
