The maple trees are tapped and the sap will soon be dripping. Maple syrup is made in the spring of the year when temperatures fluctuate to either side of freezing. Warm days and cold nights are what makes the sap run. Dewy Meadows Maple, a 500-acre farm near Little Meadows which produces pure maple products, will host an Open House on Saturday, March 22, in conjunction with the Forest Landowners Association. Tours of the sap house will be at 10:00 am, 12:00 Noon, and 2:00 pm. Check out the sap lines in the woods. You can cross country ski or go hiking. Brunch will be served at Abell's pond from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. A delicious pancake meal with all the trimmings will be served. From Apalachin travel south on Pennsylvania Avenue approximately six miles to Little Meadows, Pa. In Little Meadows, turn right at the Grange National Bank onto Warren Center-Little Meadows Road. Travel approximately two miles. Dewy Meadows farm is on the right. Look for the big maple leaf. For details, check www.dewymeadows.com, or call (507) 395-3458.
