To mark the 100th day of school, a group of Broome-Tioga BOCES students launched a drive to collect personal care items in support of a homeless shelter in Owego. The students, six- to nine-year-olds in a district-based class at Apalachin Elementary, collaborated with students at Tioga Learning Center and set a goal of collecting 100 items in recognition of the 100th day of school.

The students' goal was easily surpassed  -   261 items were collected and will stock the supply shelves at the Open Door Mission's outreach Program.
BOCES, as an organization, has made a concerted effort to raise awareness of character education within the educational setting. Being mindful of the core values of respect, responsibility, caring, and cooperation, made the transition from a classroom celebration to a community-based project a natural progression.
