• Duct Tape and Plastic
Duct tape and plastic - Oh, no! How about "Sheltering in Place."
We have at AFD Station # 1 free for you from the CDC (Center for Disease
Control and Prevention), documentation that explains what sheltering in
place means, how to prepare to shelter in place, how people will know if
they need to shelter in place, and what to do.
Stop by 230 Pennsylvania Avenue anytime between 6:00 am and 6:00
pm for your free copy. Incidently, the documentation does mention
duct tape and plastic, but it also mentions eight other items that didn't
get as much attention in the news media. For more information about "Sheltering
in Place," call 888-246-2675.
• Snow and Fire Hydrants
Snow and fire hydrants - not a good combination. How reassuring
it was to see so many hydrants cleared of snow during this winter's severe
weather conditions. There are 62 hydrant helpers in the Apalachin Fire
District and they kept true to their commitment of keeping the hydrants
clear of snow. Thank you!
If you live near a hydrant that was not cleared, please consider
adopting that hydrant. In doing so, you will not only protect your house
in case of fire, you'll be helping your neighbors and firefighters as well
since it is important we have an adequate source of water when responding
to your neighborhood.
• Join the Fire Department
Interested, but not quite sure you want to join AFD? You've seen
in past issues of this publication the rewards and commitments. How about
talking with a firefighter now? He/she would be very happy to answer any
questions you may have. You've all heard the old saying "It is in giving
that we receive." What better way to give then in support of your
neighbors and community. Call 625-2216 for more information.
Till next month, stay safe!
