 Bob Yanchus Named Tioga County
Employee of the Year
At the end of each year, the Tioga County Employee Recognition Committee selects one employee as the "Employee of the Year."  This person is chosen from the four employees who were named as "Employee of the Quarter" during that year.  This individual must have a positive impact on the administration of his or her department programs and make significant contributions to the provision of County services beyond the call of duty. This year, Tioga County is proud to announce that the "Employee of the Year for 2002" is Bob Yanchus, Manager, Employment Center.

Bob Yanchus was Employee of the 1st Quarter, 2002. Bob began employment in Tioga County in August 1976 at the Department of Social Services. In 1986, he transferred to the Department of Employment and Training. He was the Senior Employment and Training Counselor.  He was involved with On The Job Training and JTPA programs. In 1994, Employment and Training merged with other employment service agencies in the county to form a one-stop employment center. Bob was a very integral part of this successful union.

Bob was named Employment Center Manager in 2001. He coordinates the On the Job Training, Classroom Training, and Title 1B Work Force Investment Act programs.  He also supervises the outstationed Department of Labor employees. Bob is a member of   the Tioga County Empire Zone Administrative Board and the Broome-Tioga Work Force Development System Business Team.   From August of 2000 until November of 2000, and again from July 2001 to January 2002, Bob agreed to be Acting Director of the Employment Center until the county was able to fill the position. His employees stress how well he handled these additional responsibilities, while continuing to perform his duties as Manager. The staff emphasizes his professionalism, understanding and compassion, as well as his calmness and ability to remain rational when crisis situations develop. Bob lets his staff know that their opinions and input are important to him.

Bob lives in Owego with his wife,  Joyce, and their two sons, Stephen and Michael. He prioritizes his family life, and is greatly involved in his sons' activities. He enjoys coaching them in baseball, soccer, and basketball. Bob, himself, enjoys basketball and golf, and is an avid tennis player.

Tioga County is proud to have such an excellent employee within its ranks.  Congratulations, Bob, on this well- deserved award.
