Youth 14 and older who plan to work on a farm and operate farm machinery are required by law to complete a farm safety program and receive tractor certification.

 Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tioga County  is offering its  annual  4-H Farm Safety and Tractor Certification Program beginning with the orientation meeting on Thursday, February 20, at 7:30 pm, in the Tioga County Office Building, Room 107-108, at 56 Main Street in Owego.

 Students must register at the orientation meeting. A registration fee of $8 is required for first time students to cover costs and a manual. There will be a $3 registration fee for returning students who bring their manuals from last year. Students must complete all classes before they can receive their certification.

 The classes will be held at various farm and equipment dealers in Tioga County on February 26, March 5, 12, 19, 22, and 26. 

 Awards will be presented to the top five students and the top three students will be eligible to represent Tioga County at the New York State Tractor Operator competition.
