Key Club's Food Drive was a Success

The results of the Annual Owego Free Academy's Key Club Food Holiday Drive are in and the students at Owego Free Academy feel good about giving. The program to collect food items to assist the regional pantries of the Rural Ministries began shortly after Thanksgiving. When the drive ended just before Christmas, more than 3,500 items of food had been donated.

"The Holiday Food Drive is one of the club's favorite activities of the year," said Barb Melby, OFA Science teacher and Key Club adviser. "Our reward is the surprised smiles on the faces of the nuns as we march in with box after box of food to re-stock the struggling pantries."

The Key Club members not only encouraged classmates to give, but they stayed late at school to organize the contest tallies and storage of the food until it could be delivered to the ministries.

Sarah Houseworth, Key Club's Co-President played a huge roll in organizing the drive from start to finish. The home room at the high school with the most donated items was Mrs. Casterline's, followed by Mrs. Davis' class, and then Mrs. Bartlow's early morning math class.

Mrs. Melby and the Key Club members would like to thank all who donated food, packed the boxes, and helped with the delivery. It was a great team effort and service to the community.
