Winter Exhibition - Architectural Models
Dec. 13, 2001 - Feb. 2, 2002
The Tioga County Historical Society will exhibit the seven Architectural
Models that were made by students in the Tioga County School district over
the past several years as part of the Architectural Awareness Program.
The Architectural Models Program, which is part of the Tioga County
Coalition for Better Schools initiative, was introduced in 1995 by local
architect Dan Leonard. The program has received support from the American
Institute of Architects (AIA), and it has been pointed to as a role model
for other school districts in the state. The large models, usually permanently
located at the locations they represent, include the Old Jail, the Tioga
County Courthouse, and the
Owego Fire Station.
Reception for Architectural Models
December 13, Thursday, 5:30 pm
Students, their families, and all members of the community are
invited to attend the opening reception of the Architectural Model Display.
These models were created by students in the Tioga County School District
over the past several years. The students and adults involved with these
models will give an informal gallery talk at approximately 6:15 pm. Refreshments
will be served. The reception is free.
Toy Program
December 15, Saturday, 10 am
Tom McEnteer will present a holiday program about toys. This
will be geared toward children and their parents, but grandparents are
also encouraged to attend, as are children of all ages. Yummie sweets and
juice will be provided (and coffee for the grownups!). The program is free
and open to everyone.
Holiday Open House
December 16, Sunday, 3-5 pm
Everyone is welcome to attend the Holiday Open House. Admission
is free. The museum will be decorated for the holidays and there will be
drink and light refreshments.
Harpist Meredith Kohn Bocek has graciously
agreed to play beautiful holiday music, as well as folk music from various
lands. Meredith is well known in the community, having played for audiences
for many years. She also has a harp trio, Heaven Scent, with two of her
students.
