Apalachin Fire Department News

EMS Coverage
Greater Valley responds simultaneously to Apalachin's EMS calls weekdays between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. If you receive a bill from Greater Valley for this service, please call 625-2790.  Apalachin's  EMS service is in serious need of EMTs. You can help by joining the department and becoming an EMT or a driver.

Although all firefighters in Apalachin must be familiar with firematics, some members specialize in the EMS field. New York State courses are provided at no cost to the firefighter.  We need what you have to offer if you're willing to get up in the middle of the night or  respond during the day when you're in the middle of something special. The commitment is great, but the rewards are immeasurable. There is no age limit in joining the Apalachin Fire Department, although a physical is required which the department pays for.

Remembering Stewart Perry
The Apalachin Fire Department  mourns the loss of  Fallen Firefighter Stewart Perry who passed away November 28. Stew served as Lieutenant of Rescue Truck 151, and was very instrumental in writing the specs for this new apparatus. He gave countless hours of behind the scenes service  to the department for nearly five years while a member of AFD. Stew also served as District Commissioner for the past three years.  He will be sadly missed by the many friends he made in AFD.

Fire trucks
Personnel and trucks from area fire departments including Apalachin, Owego,  Vestal, Endwell, and Union, participate in a funeral procession along Route 434 in Apalachin (near Hilton Road) for firefighter Stewart Perry. The funeral was held on Saturday, December 1. Contributions may be made in Perry's memory to the Apalachin Fire Department Emergency Squad, Pennsylvania Avenue, PO Box 572, Apalachin, NY 13732.
