1st German Oktoberfest in Owego

A German Oktoberfest Celebration will take place on Saturday, October 6, in Owego. This is a free community event in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Zion Lutheran Church's Christian Day School. The Oktoberfest will be held from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on their five-acre site, just 1.5 miles west of downtown Owego off Route 17C.

The event will feature scrumptiously prepared authentic German baked goods and food such as bratwurst, hot German potato salad, and sauerkraut. Throughout the afternoon there will be a craft fair, organized children's games, and local ethnic musicians featuring German music and song (no beer, though, it is held on school grounds). All are invited to come and experience the fun.

Craft vendors will be located on the school grounds under a large tent. Another large tent (with room for dancing) will hold various musicians and musical groups such as "Sounds of Music" playing traditional German music; Cobblestone Crossing, a four-piece folk sing-a-long band; and Robert Siegers playing melodies on the banjo. Verne Fillmore will also play classical organ music that will fill the sanctuary and hallways.

If you have any questions about Zion Lutheran School or the Oktoberfest Celebration, please call the school office at (607) 687-6376.
