Town and County Government Watch
by Donald Cstellucci, Jr.

Town of Owego
• Weather pending the Apalachin River Crossing is scheduled to open in July.
• At last count, there are five Republican candidates running for two seats on the Owego Town Board: Don Davis, Jack Legg, Annette Schweiger, Virginia Butler, and incumbent Bruce Brent. You will be able to pick any two in the Republican Primary on September 11.
Village of Owego
• Tioga County has requested the Village of Owego Board release an easement it has on the Route 434 it plans to use for the new office complex. The village board has not made a decision yet.
Tioga County
• Jim Saddlemire has announced his candidacy for the County Legislature for Legislative District #1. Dick Huttleston currently holds that position.
• Tioga County recently held a luncheon to unveil its new logo. It depicts several images that represent the community.
Other Items
• Recently I have been engaged in some debate about if we should be getting our "tax rebates" or the government should use the money for "other spending." In this one discussion with ( call him "Dave") he went on and on about how the government should use the money instead of giving it to the "rich."  After explaining to him I thought that I was far from "rich" and would happily take his portion if need be or better yet he could send his back so the government could use it and he could make a statement -- the conversation sort of ended abruptly. Can't have it both ways……
• It is petition time again!  I want to make some clarifications. For the races for Town of Owego Council, you can  sign for any two candidates. For the race for Town of Owego Supervisor,  you can only sign for one. Therefore, if anyone presents you with a multiple candidate petition be aware you may be precluding yourself from signing for someone else.
