Band students of the Owego Free Academy Music Department participated in an evaluation festival sponsored by the New York State Music Association on May 12 at Johnson City High School. The OFA Jazz Band was awarded the highest rating - Gold Division, on their performance of Level 6 (most difficult) music.
 Band members also represented Owego Free Academy at the Hersheypark Music Festival on May 18. Both the Concert Band and Jazz Band were awarded Superior ratings as well as first place trophies in the AA-Division. In addition, both bands were also rated as the best over-all bands in the Jazz Band and Concert Band categories and were awarded "Judges Choice" trophies for this accomplishment. Out of a field of 41 different performing groups, the OFA Concert Band had the distinction of the highest average score for the entire festival - 97.5. The award for Outstanding Jazz Soloist was also given to an OFA musician, Jazz Band guitarist, Adam Underwood. The Owego Free Academy Bands are directed by Mr. Daniel Fabricius.
