Farmers Market Open at Two Locations

The Owego Farmers Market will add a second location for the 2001 season. From June 15 through August 31, the farmers will be selling their wares on Friday afternoons from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. They will continue to sell from their downtown location at the Eckerds' parking lot from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm every Tuesday from June 19 through October 30.
Frank Wiles, the new Owego Farmers Market manager, owns Our Green Acres farm and is also a vendor at the market. Wiles and the other market members spent many hours this past winter planning to revitalize the market. They decided to start earlier in the season and open a second location, while vigorously promoting the market.
Their plans have been welcomed by the Town of Owego, which owns Hickories Park, and the Historic Owego Marketplace, the local business association. Wiles says the members are striving to create a market that is "consumer friendly and community oriented, featuring a broad range of vendors and consumers."
Vendors will include farmers selling their homegrown produce, crafts, and prepared ready-to-eat foods. Look for salad greens, strawberries, rhubarb, herbs, and maybe even some hothouse tomatoes, cucumbers, and summer squash among the farmers' early offerings.
