Town of Owego
• The Citizens Advisory Committee is looking for applications for qualified homeowners to have necessary repairs done through the HUD grant process. Contact Roy Matthews, 687-0707, at Tioga Opportunities if interested.

• McCabe's Auto Sales on Rt 17C/Fifth Avenue was approved to open for business.

• The town approved Jeff Kies Auto Sales' plan for expanded parking on land he recently bought behind his existing building on Route 434.

• The Apalachin River Crossing is on schedule to open at the end of June.


• The traffic lights were recently installed on the Hiawatha Bridge in order to prevent traffic from backing up on Route 17. The Court Street Bridge in Owego is scheduled to close in the fall for construction, and heavier traffic is expected on the other two crossings (the Hiawatha Bridge and the Millennium Bridge in Apalachin).

• The Apalachin Firemen's Field Days will be held from June 6 - 9.

Village ofOwego
• The Red Cross opened a chapter office at the Countryside Community Center. It is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.

• The new Village of Owego Board consists of Mayor Barb Fink, Deputy Mayor John Bouton, Ed Arrington, Herb McDowell, Mark Rhodes, Ken Williams, and Gary Christiano.

• May 5 through the end of the season in July has been declared as the period of celebration of the golden anniversary of Owego Little League. May 5 was a great day of memories and baseball. All involved in the preparation deserve a round of applause.

• The Strawberry Festival will take place on Saturday, June 16.

Tioga County
• Plans to move the county offices to the Southside of Owego are moving forward. The Courthouse will be left in tact in the village.
