Twelve students of Binghamton University's
Newman Catholic Community Center and local volunteers volunteered their
time and talents for one week in March to help low-income and elderly residents
with minor home repairs. Fourteen project were completed in homes in Apalachin,
Barton, Nichols, Owego, Spencer, and Waverly. The volunteers painted, replaced
doorbells, fixed windows, installed weatherstripping, replaced floors,
repaired a kitchen sink, installed new cabinets, and replaced a water heater.
Sister Phyllis McGuire of Tioga County Rural Ministries, the organization
which sponsored the projects, said, "We at TCRM are most grateful to all
who give their time and evergy to those in need." The giving hands of the
volunteers clearly brightened the home of those less fortunate in Tioga
County.
