Perry, Simkins, and Wold Earn Eagle Badges

Three outstanding young men in our community have attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest youth award offered by the Boy Scouts of America. Christian Perry, Patrick Simkins, and Robert Wold received their Eagle badges at a ceremony on April 29, at the Park Terrace Community Methodist Church in Apalachin.

RobertWold is a January 2001 graduate of Vestal High School and is currently in Marine Recruit basic training at Paris Island, South Carolina. He completed a service project for the Waterman Conservation Center that consisted of designing and building wildlife viewing blinds at the Brick Pond nature area in Owego. Robert served Boy Scout Troop 43 of Apalachin in a variety of leadership positions that included Senior Patrol Leader, the highest youth position in the troop. He is currently listed as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 43.

PatrickSimkins is a senior at Vestal High School and is graduating this June. Patrick also completed a project for the Waterman Center that included the design and building of a number of birdhouses to be used at the center on Hilton Road in Apalachin for continuing programs involving migratory birds that use our area as a nesting site. Patrick served the troop as an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, and Instructor for the new scouts in the troop, helping them complete requirement for advancement to First Class Scout. He is currently serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster.

ChrisPerry is also a senior at Vestal and will be attending the SUNY Maritime Academy after graduation this June. Chris' project involved the design and construction of a cooking pavilion at the Park Terrace Community United Methodist Church to be used for church and community functions. This project was completed in memory of Alice Standart, his great-great-aunt, and is available for viewing on the day of the ceremony at the church on Glann Road. Chris is also a past Senior Patrol Leader and is now an Assistant Scoutmaster.

These scouts have been in the Boy Scouts of America since entering the first grade as Tiger Cub Scouts. They came together in Apalachin with Pack 43 as Webelos during their fifth grade in elementary school and have been together as scouts and close friends ever since.
