St. Patrick's Day

Have you heard about Owego's Leprechauns? Lately there have seen sightings, I'm told. People walking down the street report having seen a rush of movement out of the corner of the eye. Often lively music accompanies the wind. Have you seen the little footprints in the snow? I'm sure I saw little bits of green moving around where I did not expect to see green.

Why are they so active? Oh, you think it's because St. Patrick's Day is coming soon. Maybe they are getting ready for their day of music and fun. That could be, but rumor has it that there may be more to their increased activity. I'm told by some that our Leprechauns live under the green bridge at Court Street. Are they looking for a new place to live? The bridge will be closed this summer. That doesn't leave them very long to search for a new home.

It seems that they are very involved in the community. I guess they would like to stay close by. Why do you know what they just did? They helped the Youth Services Unit of the Owego Police Department. They helped remove all the Red Bows from the evergreen trees downtown, and are poised to put up Great Big Green Bows.

Keep your eyes open. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they had other pleasant surprises planned for Saturday, March 17. Come to Owego and visit our Business District. See if you can spot them, too.
