Apalachin Girl Scouts to Camp Out at Empire State Building

Apalachin Girl Scout Troop 208 is one of four troops chosen to participate in this year's Girl Scout Camp Out at the Empire State Building in New York City on Friday, March 30.

The girl scout camp out is held each March - the scouts actually sleep on the 80th floor, indoors, not outside. They do have the opportunity to visit the outdoor observation deck on the 86th floor late at night and early in the morning.

To participate, each troop had to submit in writing why they wanted to camp out at the Empire State Building.

The girls from Troop 208 really wanted to camp out and put together a Power Point presentation which included pictures of the girls separately and talking together, an audio clip of them saying the Girl Scout promise, badges they worked on while creating the presentation, and a video of the girls singing "Growing Strong."
The Troop 208 girls are: Danielle Dunham, Camille Dunham, Mary Eberz, Catherine Gleason, Sara Krcha, Sondra LaClair, Sarah Mahonski, Jenna Shoultes, Emily Sorber, Brittny Vimislik, and Julia Wade. Donna Krcha is troop leader and Dana Gleason is assistant leader. The troop is part of the Indian Hills Girl Scout Council.

They will travel to New York City by bus, leaving on Friday, March 30, and returning on Saturday, March 31. There are some seats open on the bus. If you would to travel to New York, tickets are $40 per person. (Price includes only transportation. You are responsible for your own accommodations.) Call 625-2877 for more information.

The other three troops that will attend the camp out are Troop 95 from Stamford, Connecticut; Troop 881 from Collegeville, Pennsylvania; and Troop 288 from Danbury, Connecticut.
