Jane V. Vest, a regular columnist for the Community Press since 1995, died at her home in Owego on December 31, 2000. She was 88.

Born in Bronx, New York on October 7, 1912, Jane was the daughter of Charles and Polly (Bronowitz) Hastings.

After moving to Tioga County from Saddle River, New Jersey, with her husband Waldemar, Jane began her career in Tioga County as a legal secretary for Nate Wood. She continued to work for other law offices including Turk & Boldman, and Laverne Brister. She retired in 1978 as Surrogate Court Clerk of Tioga County.

Jane's husband died in 1978. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Vest of Owego; niece and nephew, Helga and Wolfgang Vest, and their children, Norbert, Ronald, and Corinne; and many friends.

Private services were held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were made by Richards Funeral Home, Owego.
