DAR Christmas Tea

The Beulah Patterson Brown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 9, at 548 Fifth Avenue in Owego for a Christmas Tea. DAR Good Citizens Awards will be presented to participating students. Also, the drawing for the fall raffle will be held. Members, guests, and women interested in joining DAR are cordially invited to attend.

Coral Society "Remembers December"

The Owego Choral Society presents "I Remember December" on Sunday, December 10, at 3:00 pm at the Owego Methodist Church on Main Street in Owego.

A New Hope Center Receives Donation

A gift of $200 was presented to A Nw Hope Center from donation received at the 1st Annual Fried Green Tomato Festival Celebration held on September 16, 2000. The event offered food, music, crafts, and storytelling, and was held at Brokenstone Cottage in Candor.

Christmas Volunteers Needed at Open Door Mission

Volunteers are needed at the Open Door Mission in Owego to pack food baskets and wrap gifts throughout early December.

Volunteers are needed on December 16 to set up and serve at the Children's Christmas party.

Volunteers are needed at 9:30 am on December 23 to distribute food baskets and deliver them to those with no transportation.

If you can help, call the Open Door Mission at 687-1121. The mission is at 425 North Avenue in Owego.

Christmas Party at Stray Haven

Stray Haven Humane Society & SPCA Inc. will hold their Christmas Party on Sunday, December 10, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, at Stray Haven's main office. Everyone is invited. Santa will be there to have his picture taken with the children and the animals. Stray Haven hopes that you can attend and celebrate Christmas with them. The animals need donations of food and litter and snacks.

Soup & Salad Supper

The First United Methodist Church in Newark Valley will have a Soup & Salad Supper on Saturday, December 16, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. You can choose from a delicious assortment of homemade soups, visit the salad bar for a large variety of salad fixin's, and then take a trip to the dessert table where you will find a delightful array of homemade desserts. A free will offering is requested. Free Read will also be at the dinner.

Kids Night Out Christmas Party

A "Kids Night Out Christmas Party" will take place on Saturday, December 16, at the Creamery in Nichols, New York. Admission to the party for ages 6 - 12 is $3.00. There will be Christmas Karaoke, contests, prizes, dancing to J&A Music Factory, free pizza and soda, and lots of presents. The party will be chaperoned by adults and all parents are welcome to attend. The party is sponsored by the Rainbow Lioness Club of Nichols and proceeds benefit the Kirby Park Playground.



Winter Clothing Sale

A Winter Clothing Sale will be held on Friday, December 7, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 117 Main Street in Owego.

Exhibit at Gallery Forty-One

Common Ground, an international traveling exhibition of hand-pulled prints (1998-2000) from the American Print Alliance is at Gallery Forty-one from December 8 through February 3, 2001.

The opening reception on Friday, December 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, in conjunction with the Light your Way festivities in downtown Owego.

The gallery is at 41 Lake Street, Owego. Hours are 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesday through Saturday, until 7:00 pm on Thursdays, and from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturdays.
