  OFA Students Choose Bush, Lazio
in Mock Election

 The results are in for a mock election held November 1, 2000, at Owego Free Academy in which the school's students cast their votes for the candidates who are running for state and national offices.
 Sixty percent of OFA's students registered to vote before the November 1 election. Of those who registered, seventy percent exercised their right to vote.
 Results of the students' election are as follows.

       Harry Browne, Libertarian,  30 votes
       George W. Bush, R,        178 votes
       Al Gore, D,                      97 votes
       Ralph Nader, Green Party,  77 votes
United States Senate
       Hillary Clinton, D,    93 votes
       Rick Lazio, R,        239 votes
House of Representatives  US Congress 26th District
       Maurice Hinchey, D,     129 votes
       Paul Laux, Right to Life,     7 votes
       Bob Moppert, R,              97 votes


New York State Assembly

      Jay Dinga    re-elected
     (Dinga ran unopposed)
New York State Senate
      Thomas Libous, R,      168 votes
      Steve Porter, D           47 votes
 All of the referendums passed; OFA students supported borrowing $3 billion for the Transportation Bond Issue, 54 to 19.

 The Owego Apalachin teachers would like to congratulate the students who registered and voted for informing themselves on the issues, the candidates, and for exercising and practicing one of the fundamental responsibilities of the citizens who live in democratic countries. They especially want to thank students who worked on all the campaigning for volunteering their time to inform the rest of the students about the candidates and the issues.
