Millennium Bridge Progress
The Millennium Bridge linking Apalachin and Campville is scheduled to be completed in July 2001. Many residents of those communities have been visiting the site to watch the progress. One resident who stopped  to take photos said that he's been waiting a long time for this bridge because it will help the community in emergency situations, especially during the BC Open, make it easier to visit his grandchildren in Vestal, and, he said, "I'll be able to get to Bud's Place in no time now!"

October 15, 2000 - (below) Construction site of the new bridge in Campville, looking toward Apalachin. In the foreground, a coffer dam is being built where a pier is to be located. A coffer dam is a watertight, temporary barrier which encloses the construction site of a pier. The water inside the coffer dam is pumped out, creating a dry construction area.

October 22, 2000 -  (below) This photo shows three of the stages of building a concrete pier for the bridge. The coffer dam in the foreground is near completion - the piles have been driven down into the riverbed, but the water has not yet been pumped out of the dam. Once that is done, a large wooden form for concrete will be built - just like the one in the coffer dam in the middle of the river. This wooden form will eventually be removed to reveal a concrete pier - just like the one in the background of the photo, behind the second pier's wooden form.

This photo, (below) taken from the Apalachin side of the river, shows a close-up of the middle coffer dam with the wooden form.

November 4, 2000 - (below) The wooden form of the middle pier has been removed. You can see two concrete piers. The coffer dam in the foreground has not had the water pumped out of it yet.
