Help-A-Hydrant
The Help-A-Hydrant program needs some community minded citizens to adopt a hydrant. All that's necessary is to keep a hydrant clear of snow in the winter and to check for cracks, leaks, or missing parts from time to time.

When there is a fire, precious time can be saved if the hydrant area has been cleared of snow (for a three foot radius around the hydrant) before the firefighters arrive. Every minute counts when fighting a fire.

There are presently 62 helpers who have adopted a hydrant in the Apalachin Fire District. Would you consider being one of these community minded people and adop a hydrant near your home. The Apalachin Fire Department has more than 200 hydrants. Call 625-2790 to volunteer or to get more information. Your reward for your efforts is the satisfaction in knowing that your are helping your neighbors and yourself.
