It's November 1975. President Ford fires Defense Secretary James Schlesinger and CIA Director William E. Colby.

Vice President Nelson Rockefeller announces that he does not want to be President Ford's running mate in the next election.

Democratic leaders believe that Hubert H. Humphrey will be the party=s candidate in the 1976 Presidential election.

New Jersey Superior Court rules that the parents of Karen Ann Quinlan cannot pull the plug on her respirator because it would be homicide under the state's law.

The Edmund Fitzgerald, a 729-foot ore freighter, sinks with its 29 crew in Lake Superior.

Richard Burton celebrates his 50th birthday in London. His wife, Elizabeth Taylor, donates a hospital to South African blacks in Burton's name.

The American Lung Association sponsors "Kick the Habit Day" to encourage people to stop smoking.

Former Georgia governor Jimmy Carter, 51, visits Binghamton and predicts that he will be the Democratic candidate for President. Carter states, "I believe sincerely that I will be the next President. There is no one else on the national scene that can beat me."

Generalissimo Francisco Franco, 82, dictator of Spain for 36 years, dies.

Ronald Reagan announces his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination. Five hours later, at his first campaign appearance in Miami, a young man flashes a plastic toy pistol at Reagan. The man is wrestled to the ground by three Secret Service agents.

The Equal Rights Amendment to the New York State Constitution is defeated. The amendment was to have guaranteed women equal legal status with men.

Town of Owego Supervisor William E. Engelhard, D, is re-elected to a third term. Councilman Thomas Doty, R, is re-elected to the Owego Town Council. Diane C. Albrecht, D, wins a seat on the Owego Town Council.

Carolyn Prichard is elected Homecoming Queen at OFA. Terri Kreichbaum is elected Homecoming Queen at Tioga Central.

In Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, fire destroys a railshop which was once the largest locomotive repair shop in the world.

The A&P Grocery Store on Park Street in Owego closes.

Senior citizens want the county to buy the old Central Elementary School in Owego for use by senior citizens and county offices.

Ruth Waite is voted Woman of the year by the Owego Business & Professional Women=s Club.

Kojak star Kevin ("Crocker") Dobson, 32, appears at the Oakdale Mall and SUNY Binghamton in a promotional tour for his show.

New York State Department of Transportation officials propose two plans for solving the bottleneck between the Johnson City traffic circle and the C. Fred Johnson bridge. Both plans include eliminating the traffic circle.

Auction 46 raises more than $80,000 for the local Public Television Station.
The Vestal Plaza and the Oakdale Mall will open on Sundays for holiday shopping from November 30 through December 21.

The Vestal High School Band marches in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.

Movies at local theaters include The Human Factor, Conduct Unbecoming, The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams, Winterhawk, Disney's Treasure Island and Dr. Syn, 3 Days of the Condor, and Alice Doesn=t Live Here Anymore.

Butterball turkeys cost 69 cents per pound, a 29-ounce can of Taylor cut yams costs 45 cents, and a 12-ounce package of Stove Top Stuffing costs 99 cents.  Happy Thanksgiving!
