Waterman Conservation Education Center received a $1,000 Bonus Involvement Grant from Vestal Sam's Club. This grant will be used toward the completion of an interactive songbird exhibit that will be on permanent display at Waterman's main interpretive building on Hilton Road in Apalachin. This exhibit will feature approximately 35 different species of birds, mostly songbirds, commonly found throughout the Northeast. The exhibit will consist of a life-like diorama constructed with silk greenery, taxidermist mounted birds in natural positions, and an audio feature that will play back a sample of each bird's song at the press of a button. Waterman expects the exhibit to be complete by next spring.

Vestal Wal-Mart also contributed to this exhibit as well as the following individuals: Robert Schuman, Patricia Ronsvale, Barbara Garges, and Laura Burt. More donations to this exhibit can be sent to Waterman Center, PO Box 377, Apalachin, NY 13732.

Waterman Center is at 403 Hilton Road in Apalachin. Its mission is to promote environmental conservation education and outdoor recreation and to encourage the appreciation of the total environment. The center operates four sites: Hilton Road site, Brick Pond in Owego, Hiawatha Island, and Apalachin Marsh.
