Bassett Youth Foundation to Meet

The Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation Inc.'s Community Advisory committee will meet on Wednesday, November 15, to review small grant applications from Tioga County youth organizations which promote youth development in county communities. Fall grant applications are available at 211 Main Street in Owego or by calling Thomas Bassett at 687-6522. Completed grant applications are due to the foundation by November 10.

The Bassett Youth Foundation is a public organization completing its sixth year of promoting and assisting in the development of positive youth activities throughout Tioga County.

Rummage and Bake Sale

A Rummage and Bake Sale will be held on Saturday, October 14, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the United Methodist Church in Little Meadows, Pennsylvania. A Bag Sale will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.

Lunch will be available.

To get to the United Methodist Church from Route 17, take Exit 66 and go right (west) onto Route 434, left at the light, 6 1/2 miles on Pennsylvania Avenue. The church is on the right.

Holiday Craft Show

The 4th Annual Holiday Craft Show will take place on Saturday, October 28, from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm, at the 1st United Methodist Church of Newark Valley, 61 South Main Street (Route 38). Admission is free. There will be more than 20 professional craft vendors at the show.

Harvest Supper

A Harvest Supper will be held on Saturday, November 4, from 4:00 to 6:30 pm at the 1st United Methodist Church of Newark Valley, 61 S. Main Street (Route 38), Newark Valley. Cost is $6.50 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 5 to 12, and free for children younger than five.

Levi J. Mayer Makes Dean's List

Levi J. Mayer, son of Karen Mayer of Apalachin, has made the Dean's List from the University at Albany for the Fall 1999 and Spring 2000 semesters. Levi, a Business major, was also invited to join the Golden Key National Honor Society and the Career Honors Program. Levi plans to continue his education toward a Masters Degree.
 

Folk Singer/Guitarist at Awakenings

Folk singer and guitarist Phil Shapiro will be performing songs from the New Folk Tradition at Awakenings Coffeehouse on Saturday, October 14. Phil Shapiro chooses songs from all over North America. Many of them have wonderful choruses, and the audience is cordially invited to join in. Phil is a fine finger-style guitarist, whose sturdy accompaniments are fine compliments to his songs and singing.

The doors open at 6:30 pm. Phil will perform at 7:30 and 8:30 pm. There is open seating.

Awakenings Coffeehouse is at 208 Front Street in Owego.

Pancake Breakfast in Newark Valley

A pancake breakfast will take place on Sunday, October 8, from 8:00 to 11:30 am at the fire station on Route 38 south in Newark Valley.
 

Halloween Party

A Methodist Halloween Party will take place on Saturday, October 28, at 6:00 pm at 303 Pennsylvania Avenue in Apalachin.

The party will include a covered dish dinner - bring a dish to share and your own place settings. Drinks will be furnished. After dinner, there will be games and prizes, costume judging, pumpkin judging, and a dessert auction.

Weatherization Assistance Program

The Weatherization Assistance Program assists low-income families in reducing the amount of energy used in the home and in correcting health and safety issues.

The Weatherization Assistance Program, through Tioga Opportunities, Inc., is accepting applications for weatherization services in Broome County. Applications will be accepted at the First Ward Action Council offices at 165 Clinton Street in Binghamton. The weatherization office will be open two days per week - Mondays from 12 Noon to 4:00 pm, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

The Weatherization Assistance Program is funded through the U.S. Department of Energy and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. For more information, call 786-2419.
 

Pasta Dinner

A Pasta Dinner will be held on Sunday, October 22, from Noon to 4:00 pm at St. Francis Xavier Hall in Friendsville, Pennsylvania. Dinner includes pasta, meatballs, salad bar, bread, homemade cake and beverage. Cost is $6.00 for adults, $3.00 for children, and free for pre-school children. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the religious education class as at the parishes of St. Francis, Friendsville, St. Patricks in Middletown, and St. Thomas the Apostle in Little Meadows.
 

Can & Bottle Drive

Our Lady of Sorrows and Seton Middle School 8th Grade Can & Bottle Drive will take place on Saturday, October 7. Drop off time is from Noon to 3:00 pm at Our Lady of Sorrows-Seton parking lot, 1112 Broad Street in Endicott, or at Binghamton Savings Bank & Trust (BSB), 540 Hooper Road in Endwell.
