The Laughing Place Re-Opens After Fire

A Grand Re-Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for The Laughing Place was held on Friday, September 29 at 4:00 pm at the store's new location at 19 Lake Street in Owego.

The Laughing Place had been located on Front Street, but that building was destroyed in a fire on July 1. The business's owners, Carol Lauback and Kathy Eschler, immediately started looking for a new home for The Laughing Place and found it in a building which was recently vacated by Bandler, Stiles, and Keyes, which closed its doors after more than a century of business.

A special presentation was made to seven-year-old Miles Misckhe at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Miles was a frequent visitor to the Laughing Place and had placed a K'NEX Galaxy Enforcer on layaway and was very close to having it paid in full when the fire struck. Miles was very disappointed that almost-paid-for K'NEX Galaxy Enforcer - as well as his favorite store - had been destroyed.

Lauback and Eschler shared Miles' story with the K'NEX sales representative and within a short time they received a package and letter from the Vice Chairman & General Counsel of K'NEX, Robert Jay Glickman. In a letter to Miles, Mr. Glickman expressed his admiration that Miles had set and worked toward a goal of paying for his Galaxy Enforcer. Along with the letter, Mr. Glickman included the Galaxy Enforcer which was presented to Miles at the Ribbon Cutting during the Grand Re-Opening Ceremony.
