At the Apalachin Garden Club

The Apalachin Federated Garden Club (AFGC) welcomes all interested gardeners to their first meeting of 2000-2001 on Thursday, September 7, at 7:00 pm at the Apalachin Methodist Church on Pennsylvania Avenue.

The club has interesting and informative speakers, presenting a variety of programs for those who enjoy gardening. Dessert and refreshments are provided, and a brief business meeting is held.

Upcoming guest speakers include Chris Kuhlman from Tioga Gardens with a presentation on fresh flower arranging, and naturalist Doug Weeks with a program on backyard habitats. A Christmas party and dinner will take place in December at the Pumpelly House in Owego.

Every spring, the Apalachin Federated Garden Club provides service to the community by planting annuals and perennials at various locations such as the Apalachin fire stations, the town hall, the Hickories Park, the Apalachin Library, and the AFGC Hummingbird Garden at the corner of West Main Street and Route 434 in Apalachin.

AFGC has been affiliated with the Sixth District Federated Garden Clubs of New York State since 1960. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month, September through June, at the Apalachin Methodist Church on Pennsylvania Avenue at 7:00 pm.

This year's officers are Lisa Vallequette and Janice Koncak, Co-Presidents; Meg Fitzsimmons, Vice-President; Fran Berry, Secretary, and June Liese, Treasurer. New members, men and women alike, are welcome to join the club. For more information, call Jan Koncak at 625-3934.
