Annie's Corner by Anne O. Stout

Where's the Romance?

Hey fellas, get off that chat line, close down that PC, shut off the game on the television, or that favorite movie and find your way to the nearest florist, pick a nice card and let that special someone know you remembered them on February 14th.

Nothing worse then a woman who thinks her guy forgot her on Valentines Day. If you're lucky, she just walks around sulking, if unlucky, she's angry, snapping at all who come near. (I have worked with some of these.) Of course not all women are like this, but are you guys really willing to find out?

To assist you, a florist friend of mine gave me the following flower language:

red roses - I love you

azaleas - You are my first love

yellow dahlias - I'm happy you love me

variegated dahlias - I live for your love I think of you constantly

white carnations - I live for your love

red carnations - Our love is pure

pink rosebud - You are lovely

variegated tulips - You have beautiful eyes

double aster - I share your feelings

blue salvia - I am thinking of you

forget-me-nots - Remember me

single aster - I'll think about it

white roses - You're beautiful

Now fellas, you can be sure to get the right bouquet or blossoms for her. Candy is always nice, too, but be careful. No woman watching her weight wants that box of calories, especially if you actually eat more then she does.

Lingerie, poetry (by you or others), or music are also excellent ideas for that more intimate relationship.

Don't think you husbands are off the hook, wives like romantic surprises, too. How about dinner or a show? Funds low, you do the cooking for the family for the evening, and put the kids to bed for a change. Wives definitely deserve the acknowledgment. Does the term "in the doghouse" mean anything to you hubbies?

Okay now ladies, you start thinking about what your man might like for a little surprise. Romance lives if both sides keep trying, even if only in a small way. Valentine's Day is only once a year, light the fire when you can.

Happy Valentine's Day
