Blinking Traffic Light To Be Upgraded Soon

The traffic light at the intersection of Church and Main Streets in the Village of Owego is blinking a four-way red light because it needs an upgrade and replacement parts.

The traffic light, which was put up in the 1960s, needs to be repaired but will not accept replacement parts in its current condition. The cost to purchase a new traffic light is more than $20,000. The cost to upgrade the light is $4,750. The Village of Owego, which owns the light, decided to upgrade the light so that it will accept modern replacement parts. When the upgrade and replacement parts are purchased and installed, the light will return to its normal red-yellow-green pattern.

This traffic light is the only one owned by the Village of Owego. Other village traffic lights are either maintained by New York State or owned by private businesses.
