Annie's Corner

by Anne O. Stout Forward or Backward?

Here we are deeply entrenched in the computer age with computers keeping track of everything from your bank accounts to your library card, yet I have a friend who will not make any major decisions in her life without consulting her psychic connection. (Which she does by telephone.)

As an avid reader, I have read many stories about psychics helping police with various cases, as well as cases of twins knowing when each is in trouble. Yes, I do believe some people have extrasensory perception, but over the telephone?

In stories, the psychic goes to the scene of the crime, has some personal items of the victim, and then somehow his/or her powers kick in and they start viewing images in their mind that help solve the case. Even Samuel Clemens (a.k.a. Mark Twain), a carefree river boat man then, had a psychic episode when he saw his brother's funeral in a dream a few days before he was killed in a river boat accident. Clemens acknowledged the dream in his autobiography.

The human mind has more than five senses, and even animals have been noted to use more than their main senses, so I do not need convincing. My confusion begins with the telephone.

Please explain to me how a psychic can know all about me and predict my future by my voice on the phone. By the tone or pitch of my voice? And if we have a poor connection, maybe the psychic would see someone else's future as they are not hearing my true voice.

Many celebrities have jumped on the band wagon and spend time encouraging viewers over the television to call these psychics and take your life back. But, wait, if I am following another's advisement, am I taking my life back?

It's all very confusing, and before anyone asks, no, I have not called a psychic to find if it works. Why? Mainly because I like surprises. As in the birth of my children when I had the option, but did not find out their sexes ahead of time, I prefer to wait and see.

May the force be with me!
