THE RACE FOR TIOGA COUNTY CLERK

Group Endorses LaPlante

The wildlife conservation group Pheasants Forever has endorsed Carole LaPlante of Tioga Center in her bid for Tioga County Clerk.

In a letter to LaPlante, the group's president, John Lisak, spoke of her qualifications for the job and dedication to the community saying: "Your many years of experience as Deputy Tioga County Clerk not only qualify you for the job, they have shown you can handle the tough tasks ahead of you with your typical charm, class, and professionalism."

LaPlante is a long-time member of the organization Pheasants Forever, dedicated to the preservation of habitat for pheasants.

The County Clerk's office is responsible for recording deeds, mortgages, judgements, civil court actions, and discharges from the armed forces, and issues pistol permits, sportsmen's licenses, notary renewals, and passports.

Woodburn Ready for Primary

Robert L. Woodburn, 47, of Ballou Road, Owego, was the first Tioga County Republican candidate to officially file Designating Petitions for the upcoming Republican Primary.

Woodburn, who announced his candidacy for Tioga County Clerk in March of this year, filed 1,385 Republican signatures with the Tioga County Board of Elections, nearly double the number of signatures required by the New York State Elections Law, for a candidate to appear on the September 14 ballot.
