Owego Police Dept. Awards


The 18th Annual Owego Police Department Awards Ceremony was held on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, at 9:00 am, on the front steps of the Village of Owego Municipal Building at 90 Temple Street in Owego.

Awards were given in recognition of individual accomplishments and the efforts of Owego Police Department personnel and community groups.

The following awards were presented:

Officer of the Year

to Shane W. Rollison

Community Service Award

to Time Warner of Binghamton for the generosity in producing and showing a public service announcement on pedestrian safety.

Appreciation Award

to Dennis and Joyce Shelp of Naturally Clean for maintaining the Owego Police Station

Years of Service

to Police Officer Paul Brunner for 5 years and

to Police Officer Daryl B. Dibble for 5 years.

Life Saving

to Police Officer Shane W. Rollison for saving a man on North Avenue,

to Deputy Chief James P. DeVita for saving a man on Front Street who was attempting suicide, and

to Police Officer William G. White and Dispatcher Patricia Porter for saving a man who attempted suicide in the holding cell.

Meritorious Service

to Police Officer Matthew Romano who arrested an Arizona man with a loaded 9mm Glock automatic weapon,

to Police Officer William G. White who arrested two adults and one juvenile at a burglary in progress on North Avenue,

to Police Officer Daryl B. Dibble who apprehended a man who was a wanted fugitive from California and was described as armed and dangerous, and

to Police Officer Matthew Romano who chased on foot and arrested a man who was fleeing the scene of a felony.

Exceptional Service

to Police Officer Shane W. Rollison for investigating and apprehending four juveniles for stealing a car,

to Police Officer Jeffrey M. Wasyln for investigating and apprehending three adults for stealing numerous vehicles,

to Police Officer Ginger M. Mattison for investigating and apprehending several juveniles for burglarizing the home of an elderly gentleman,

to Police Officer Shane W. Rollison and Officer Matthew Romano for responding to a fatal motor vehicle accident outside of the village and handling it until the State Police arrived, and

to Police Officer William G. White for arresting two persons driving the same car while intoxicated and also for a hit and run accident.

Honorable Service

to Police Officer Ginger M. Mattison for responding and putting out a fire at the Veterans Monument in the Courthouse Square.

After the ceremony, members of the Owego Police Department went to Evergreen Cemetery to visit the graves of two Owego Police Officers who were killed in the line of duty: Police Officer Issac Wiltse, on July 17, 1869, and Police Officer Forest Allen Hall, on October 13, 1969.
