Can you believe the school year is almost over? For you parents who were so scared the first day of school back in September when your little one got on that big, yellow bus for the first time, -I'm sure you cried as they went off to their first day of school - just think, in a few weeks, they will be home with you all summer. Where did the time go?

For the children, it was fun. For you parents, it was a new phase in your life. Your child has made many new friends and learned many new things, whether it be the ABCs or the 1,2,3s, or math, reading, science, friendships, music, gym, playground fun, or respect for all others. It's been a great year.

School, as I see it, is fun and work. Put the two together and you have a full day. I hope you all have a great summer - parents, teachers, and all of your great students at AES. Congratulations to 6th Grade in Owego. There will be a lot of new experiences, but in a few days it will be just like school days at AES. Good luck, and stop back to see us sometime!

As for me, I'm looking forward to September and dodging the little ones in the hallways early in the morning.

The question That I've heard more than any other in the last few weeks is: "When is the last day of school?" Unless we have an emergency closing between now and the end of the school year, the last day for students will be Tuesday, June 22. This will be a half-day, with dismissal at approximately 11:45 am.

Until June 22, we continue to have school each day and plan for the many important events during the month. One important event coming up in early June is the New York State Math Test. This test will be administered on June 2, 3, and 4. Two other events worth noting are the Kindergarten Orientation for the year 1999-2000, which will take place on June 11, and our Flag Day Ceremony, which will take place on June 14. Families that have children eligible for Kindergarten that are not enrolled yet should stop at the school to enroll them as soon as possible. This is important because we build our Kindergarten staffing pattern on the number of students we have enrolled. The Flag Day Ceremony is important because it allows us to gather as an entire school to celebrate who and what we are as a country. The community is invited to join us for the brief ceremony that will take place about 9:10 am on June 14.

The year will conclude with a moving up ceremony on Tuesday, June 22, for our Grade 5 students.
