Church Burns Mortgage

The Park Terrace Community United Methodist Church in Apalachin celebrated the burning of their mortgage of the sanctuary on Sunday, April 25.

Gail Zeller burned a copy of the mortgage on behalf of her husband, Bill, who died last year. Bill Zeller helped in the funding and building of the sanctuary and also helped a great deal in paying off the mortgage.

The sanctuary was built in late 1983 and consecrated in 1984. In 1996, a pledge drive called the "Extra Mile Campaign" was started to help pay off the mortgage. In April 1999, the mortgage was paid off.

Rev. Arthur Andrews, former pastor of Park Terrace (1959-1961), gave the first talk. Rev. Dr. Daniel Ling, Binghamton District Superintendent, gave the second talk. Rev. Nancy Adams, present pastor of Park Terrace, gave the third talk.

A special luncheon catered by Phil's Chicken House took place after the ceremony.

There was music given in part by Praise Twice Trio. Rev. Gerald Blake, past pastor of Park Terrace (1961-1981), gave a few remarks.
