Tracy Byrd in Concert at Tioga Park

Country music star Tracy Byrd is bringing his "Outdoor Obsession Tour" to Tioga Park in Nichols on Thursday, May 13.

The concert is associated with the Turkey Trot Acres Celebrity Hunt and Golf Tournament. Byrd will be participating in this year's celebrity hunt. He is coming to Tioga County to help raise funds for the youth activities supported by the annual event that brings several celebrities to the area.

Byrd, a 32-year-old native Texan, is an avid sportsman. His hits include Watermelon Crawl, Don't Take Her She's All I Got, Lifestyles of the Not So Rich and Famous, The First Step, and his signature ballad The Keeper of the Stars.

The Turkey Trot Acres Celebrity Hunt and Golf Tournament has been taking place each May for the past four years. Proceeds from the event and the associated activities have gone to the youth programs of the National Wild Turkey Federation and youth activities in the town of Candor. Since the beginning of the event, more than $75,000 has been raised.

This year, organizers wanted an opportunity to open the event up to more people. With the help of The Nashville Network (TNN) and others, Tracy Byrd will be performing his first concert in Tioga County. Funds raised from the concert will go to benefit the youth programs of the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Youth Commission of Candor, and the Kids Camp of the Tioga County Council on the Arts. Event organizers are also establishing a scholarship program for local area students furthering their education in conservation.

Each year, Candor plays host to several celebrities that come to the area for golfing, hunting, and other activities designed to raise money for youth. It has been an event that was limited in scope. By adding a country music concert with a major star, organizers have expanded the event to include more communities and a greater opportunity to raise money to benefit even more youth.

Several local talents will be opening for Byrd at the May 13 concert. Tickets for the concert are available at the following locations: all Tioga State Bank locations, Dunkin' Donuts in the Triple Cities and Owego, McNeil Music in Vestal, and Jay's House of Sound in Sayre, Pennsylvania.

The concert will begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $18 and $22, and are also available by calling Delta Productions at 800-895-1010.
