LITTLE MEADOWS RESCUE SQUAD PUTS AED INTO SERVICE & BEGINS ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION DRIVE

The Little Meadows Rescue Squad is pleased to announce the addition of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to its ambulance. Under the direction of Dr. Hoda, AED Medical Director, this piece of portable equipment is now on the ambulance and available for use.

AED's help save the lives of cardiac patients and are a vital link in the chain of pre- hospital cardiac care. If you suspect a cardiac problem, remember to:

1. Call 911 as soon as possible. Don't wait as every second counts.

2. Check for pulse and breathing.

a. If present, continue to monitor the patient until the ambulance arrives.

b. If not present, begin CPR and continue until the ambulance arrives and trained personnel relieve you.

The AED and associated training pieces cost nearly $4000. Funds to purchase this equipment will come from a Bradford/Susquehanna EMS Council grant, fund raisers and donations from subscribers and the public.

At present, the Squad is conducting its annual subscription drive. Subscription payments and associated donations are the main source of income and are necessary to keep the ambulance in operation. If you did not receive your subscription materials, call 623-3587, leave your name, phone number, a brief message, and someone will return your call.

Volunteer support, in addition to financial support, is vital to providing reliable local emergency medical service. The squad is earnestly seeking new members. Help is needed in many areas including: clerical, fund raising, ambulance driving, and medical care. A new Emergency Medical Technician training class started at Montrose Area High School on February 23rd. It is still possible to join that class. If you are interested in the class, any aspect of the ambulance service, would like to become a volunteer, or simply like more information, please don't hesitate, call 623-3587 or 623-3884.
