'River Plan' is Topic at Waverly Meeting

A public meeting to gather input, get suggestions, and identify any issues and concerns from residents of river communities will be held on Thursday, January 7, from 6:30 to 9:00 pm at the Town of Barton Municipal Building in Waverly.

The Tioga County Tourism Office is sponsoring a project to create a Master Plan for the county-wide development of the Susquehanna and Chemung Rivers as recreational resources.

The Master Plan Project will be managed by the Tourism Office and developed with the participation of municipal planners from all Tioga County river communities and interested organizations and residents. When completed, the plan will be used to apply for implementation funding from federal and state sources.

Two public meetings have already been held in the Owego and Nichols area. The meeting in Waverly is for the residents of the Town of Barton and the Village of Waverly.

The project is made possible by a Local Waterfront Revitalization Program grant recently received from the New York State Department of State.

This Local Waterfront Revitalization Program Grant is awarded by the Department of State's Division of Coastal Resources, which administers Environmental Protection Fund grants available to local governments for revitalization programs including natural resource restoration, waterfront restoration, inter-municipal water quality improvements, and public education.

The Barton Municipal Building is located on Route 17C West in Waverly.
