Business Counseling Available

Free, confidential, one-on-one counseling for business people, or those who wish to start a business is available at the Tioga County Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is a satellite location for SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) and the Small Business Development Center at Binghamton University.

The counseling sessions benefit those who may be considering going into business or those who have been in business and wish assistance with specific situations or problems. Call the chamber to set up an appointment.

"Teacher Shadowing" Effort

The chamber, along with the Broome County Chamber of Commerce, co-sponsored visitations of teachers to several businesses and organizations recently. This "teacher shadowing" is a project of the School to Careers Partnership of Broome and Tioga Counties.

The purpose of the sessions is to help educators become aware of career opportunities and the job skills and attitudes needed to do those jobs. After participating in the program, educators will become more aware of what curriculum changes will better prepare students for the work world.

Participating Tioga County businesses and organizations included Tioga State Bank, Edward Jones Company, Riverview Manor, Ye Olde Country Florist, Cheevers, Hand & Angeline, Tioga County Department of Social Services, New York State Department of Labor, and the First Baptist Church of Owego.

The program will be held again in March 1999. Interested businesses and organizations may contact chamber president Joan Englehart at (607) 687-2020 for more information.

Annual Dinner Meeting

The Annual Dinner Meeting of the Tioga County Chamber of Commerce will be held on Tuesday, December 8, at the Owego Treadway Inn. Social hour at 6pm, dinner at 7pm. New York State Assemblyman Jay Dinga will be the speaker.
