List of PA Monuments at Gettysburg Grows

One day before the official launch of the state campaign to encourage private donations to preserve the Pennsylvania monuments at Gettysburg, state Rep. Harry Readshaw, D-Allegheny, announced that continuing research has revealed the state had erected more monuments and markers than originally identified.

Readshaw, who has been spearheading the monument preservation effort, said as a result of additional research that has grown out of his project, the number of Pennsylvania monuments and markers on the historic battlefield has increased to 133. Previously, the number of Pennsylvania monuments had been placed at 111.

"The new figure was arrived at through research by Gettysburg National Military Park personnel and my administrative assistant, Kathi Schue," said Readshaw.

Readshaw said the additions mainly reflect markers indicating the battlefield positions of many Pennsylvania regiments, as well as a few monuments honoring individuals.
