Duquesne University Tamburitzans Perform in Owego

America's longest-running multicultural song and dance company, the Duquesne University Tamburitzans, will perform a free concert in Owego on Saturday, December 12, at 8:00 pm, at the Owego-Apalachin Middle School. The group, which is comprised of 38 full-time students, performs songs and dances of Eastern Europe and other related folk cultures.

Tamburitzans sing songs in many languages and dialects and dance in hundreds of styles. In addition to the familiar accordion, clarinet, violin and guitar, instruments like the bandura, tambura, gadulka, and cimbalom are plucked, picked, bowed and hammered. During the two-hour show, the performers wear over 400 original and authentically reproduced costumes.

The Duquesne University Tamburitzans was founded in 1937. The name Tamburitzans is taken from the tamburitza family of stringed instruments from the folk cultures of Southeastern Europe. Duquesne University is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
