New Faces in Old Places

The Crown & Covenant Reformed Presbyterian Church formerly of Endicott is purchasing the Berachah Baptist Church at Main Street and Armstrong Place in Owego. The church plans to open their doors for worship on September 6, 1998. Pastor Arthur Fawthrop will be preaching on "Work for the Lord." For the following Sundays in September the sermons will deal with Christian Contentment. Is this possible in the stressful, chaotic world that we live in these days?

The Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America has a long history in this country starting back in 1743 before the birth of this Nation. The origins of the Reformed Presbyterian Church go further back to the Presbyterian Church in Scotland, known as the Covenanter Church because of their identification with public covenanting. This act was a protest for Christ's crown rights as King over the state and the recognition of Christ as King over the Church without interference from the government in Scotland beginning in the 16th century. They still maintain this Kingship of Christ as a foundational principal of the denomination. Their beliefs all stem from the authority of the Bible as the inerrant, infallible Word of God and belief in the Triune God; God the Father, Son, & Holy Spirit.

The Reformed Presbyterian church believes in the Regulative Principal of Worship which says that the Bible teaches us how God wants to be worshiped. This is a unique concept in this day and age. The reading and exposition of God's word is the central focus of their worship service. They praise God through the a capella singing of the Psalms. Their emphasis on God's word comes from a belief that it must penetrate into man's heart and direct the way we think, behave and act.

Their times of worship are as follows:

Sunday: 10 am Worship; 11:15-11:30 Coffee; 11:30-12:30 Sunday School Hour. Wednesday Bible Study and Prayer.

They welcome all who are interested to visit and or contact the Pastor, Arthur Fawthrop at 785-0056.
