The Lions Clubs (District 20-E2, serving the Finger Lakes region) elected Lion John Sobotka of Apalachin as Vice-District Governor for the 1998-99 year.

Sobotka is a member of the Apalachin Lions Club and is currently involved on the district level as Cabinet Secretary. He is also a member of the Long-Range Planning and Membership committees.

Sobotka joined the Apalachin Lions Club in 1980 and has served as President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Director.

Current District Governor Lion Fred Daniels said, "Lion John is duly qualified not only by policy, but through personal commitment, his individual service record and a diverse background in helping and assisting those in need." Sobotka takes office effective July 3, 1998.
